HESP Alliance shortlisted as finalist for the CSI Awards 2022

CSI magazine announced that the HESP Alliance has been shortlisted as finalist for the CSI Awards 2022 in the “Best Live OTT Technology or Service” category. The winners of the 20th annual CSI Awards will be announced face-to-face at the award ceremony on September 9th 2022 in Amsterdam.

The CSI awards are among the most prestigious and competitive technology awards in the industry, designed to recognise and reward innovation and excellence in the cable, satellite, broadcast, IPTV, telco, broadband/OTT video, mobile TV and associated sectors. It is an honor to receive the news being shortilisted between among other excellent participants from the technology indutry.

The HESP Alliance (www.hespalliance.org) brings together streaming video technology providers and media companies to deliver a superior quality of experience to the online video viewer at a reduced cost by standardizing and advancing the High Efficiency Streaming Protocol (HESP) and commercializing HESP solutions.

The High Efficiency Streaming Protocol (HESP) is an HTTP-based streaming protocol for next generation services, as it provides high efficiency streaming to deliver upon the increasing viewer expectations. It provides benefits such as:

  • Fast channel change, as low as 100ms;

  • Sub-second latency to any audience size, as it can scale over standard CDNs;

  • Improved adaptive bitrate (ABR);

  • Bandwidth savings, up to 20%, to further drive cost savings.

Instead of using a segment-based approach, HESP leverages a frame-based streaming approach, which does not require a trade-off between live latency and channel switching time.

“We are honored that the HESP Alliance was shortlisted in the Best Live OTT Technology or Service category among such highly esteemed competition”, says Pieter-Jan Speelmans, CTO & Co-Founder at THEO Technologies.
